13 Things To Do at Bondi Beach

1. Appreciate Peak Aussie Beach Culture

You already know this, but one of the best things to do in Bondi Beach is to appreciate the beach! In many ways, Bondi Beach shows off the best aspects of Aussie beach culture.

The establishment of the Bondi Surf Bathers’ Life Saving Club marks a significant historical moment in surf lifesaving activities at Bondi Beach. From the colourful promenade, featuring lively murals, to swimming and sunbathing, Bondi Beach has some of the best beaches around.

Whether you want to do some surfing, swimming, sightseeing at the lookout points, or just walk around and soak up the culture, make sure that you reserve time to go to the beach. It’s right there in the name.

You can’t visit the Bondi area without going to the beach. So pack your swimsuits, sunglasses, and sunscreen to go out and enjoy, whether it’s just for an afternoon or your entire holiday!

I also love sitting on the beach at sunset and it is definitely one of the best things to do on Bondi Beach.

A serene ocean pool with clear turquoise water, bordered by a white concrete deck and metal pool ladder. The ocean and horizon extend into the background under a lightly clouded blue sky.

2. Take a Dip at the Icebergs Pool

Apart from going to the beach, the Icebergs Pool is one of the most iconic activities to do in Bondi Beach!

The Icebergs Pool is an ocean pool located at the Bondi Iceberg Club, which opened in 1929 as a club and pool for lifeguards to stay in shape during the off-season. Swimming in this ocean pool offers a unique experience, especially when there are waves, making it different from a typical swimming pool.

Now the Bondi Iceberg Club is a unique location, a pool location just off the shore, almost as if you could reach out and touch the ocean. It is also one of the most photographed spots in all of Bondi Beach.

For a small fee, you can gain access to the club for a day and swim in the famous ocean bath!

There is also a cafe and bistro at the club, if you want to make a whole day out of it. If you have any time to spare in Bondi Beach, don’t miss out on this activity, since it’s one of the best things to do in Bondi Beach!

3. Dine at Bondi Icebergs Dining Room

Restaurant with views of Bondi Strand?

Then Bondi Icebergs dining room knows what it means to be a part of the surfing lifestyle in Bondi.

There are two rooms on offer. The original dining room offers a modern Italian cuisine menu and  a wide range of seafood dishes and fine wines while overlooking the ocean and Bondi strand.

There is also the Pacific dining room which is perfectly positioned right on top of the Pacific Ocean offering a similar menu.

4. Peruse art at Aquabumps

Aquabumps is one of the most popular shops in all of Bondi. It’s home to your photography dreams.

Even if you don’t plan on purchasing, you’ll surely have fun walking around and checking out the art even if all you do take is a photo. It is rather one of the unique Bondi Beach things to do.

5. Go for a Walk from Bondi to Coogee

If you want to stretch your legs, head out on the Bondi to Coogee Walk!

This cliff-top coastal walk is undoubtedly one of the best things to do in Bondi Beach, since it offers spectacular views of the coastline. Bronte Beach is a popular stop along the way, where visitors can take a break for lunch and enjoy the lively atmosphere.

The trail begins in Bondi and winds along the coast for six kilometres, until you reach the coastal suburbs of Coogee. It generally takes two hours to walk the whole path, though it can take longer if you really make a day out of it, stopping for the views, checking out the restaurants and amenities along the way.

If you have little ones in the mix, you may consider stopping for some beach fun at the beaches near Coogee, since the waves they tend to be smaller, more tame, and friendlier for little swimmers.

Either way, it’s a great trail to see some of the beautiful Bondi Beach coastline and this is one of my favourite things to do at Bondi!

A lone person stands on a rocky outcrop by the ocean, watching the waves crash against the shore at sunset. The sky is filled with soft clouds and the horizon shows a faint glow of sunlight, with cliffs in the distance on the right side of the frame.

6. Grab Some Souvenirs at Bondi Markets

If you happen to visit Bondi Beach on the weekend, make sure that you take time to visit the Bondi Markets!

The market is located near the north end of Campbell Parade. This is an extremely fun area of Bondi, where you can move from stall to stall, picking up delicious eats and souvenirs.

You’ll find everything from local produce to artisan goods and full, made-to-order meals.

There is often live music and plenty of people milling around, including locals and tourists. Overall, it is a great way to see the community, as well as pick up some souvenirs or delicious food on the weekend!

7. Wander the Shelves at Gertrude and Alice

Gertrude and Alice is one of the most popular local bookstores, which doubles as a cafe. This multilevel bookstore offers a combination of new and pre-owned books, so it can cater to any budget.

This bookstore has been part of Bondi culture for over 20 years, and it only continues to grow. Literature and book lovers shouldn’t miss out on this Bondi Beach gem, that combines great books with a quirky, old-world vibe.

8. Check Out a Bondi Festival or a Special Event

Throughout the year, some of the best things to do in Bondi Beach are the festivals and special events!

Bondi Pavilion, a landmark cultural icon in Australia, hosts various cultural performances, workshops, and unique activities like dance sessions and open-air movie screenings.

Every August, Bondi hosts the world’s largest fun run, the City2Surf race. If you’re more of a winter person, Bondi also hosts the Bondi Winter Festival every year, which brings people together through artistic performances, a fun ferris wheel, and an ice skating rink right on the beachfront. These are fun events to partake in if you want to see the Bondi Beach community out in full force!

One such special event is called Sculpture by the Sea, which usually runs from late October to early November. In 2024, the exact days will be October 18 to November 4th. This wonderful event is the world’s largest, free public sculpture exhibition.

It brings together over 100 sculptures from artists around the world and sets them along Tamarama Beach Coastal Walk. It is an absolutely stunning exhibition, which changes every year.

If you can visit during this time of year, you won’t be disappointed. If you want to plan a trip around Sculpture by the Sea any other year, make sure that you check the dates, as there is variance from year to year.

9. Be a Part of Bondi Coffee Culture

As with other parts of Australia, coffee is an integral part of the Bondi Beach culture, and inevitably one of the best things to do is grab a cup of delicious coffee.

If you’re looking purely for a nice cup of joe, consider Skittle lane or Will and Co, as both are local favourites for stopping in for a coffee. Take your time and sip slowly, while you watch Bondi wake up around you.

Be advised, at these two spots in particular there isn’t much in the way of food. If you want to have some real food with your coffee, you’ll need to get a bit more creative.

A few of my favourite spots include Bills and Republic Bakery!

10. Step Out for a Specialty Cocktail

All of the great drinks in Bondi Beach aren’t just in the morning! If you’re not too exhausted by a day at the beach, you can also take advantage of Bondi Beach’s great night culture.

No matter if you’re looking for a classic beer, glass of wine, or specialty cocktail, you won’t be at a loss for places to go.

If you’re looking for a lively spot, where live music is a perfect complement to a cocktail, check out the Beach Road Hotel

If you’d rather have a more retro beach feel (think Palm Springs, white and pink decor), Hotel Ravesis is probably more up your alley. Whether you decide to visit these spots or not, make sure you hit the town in the evening for a drink, as being part of the nightlife is undoubtedly one of the best things to do in Bondi Beach!

11. Go Shopping at Westfield Bondi Junction

You may be surprised but one of the top things to do in Bondi Sydney is shopping! One of the most popular spots for shopping is Westfield Bondi Junction. It is easily accessible from Bondi Junction station, which offers multiple bus services to the area from the city.

This complex is one of the most iconic spots for retail-therapy in all of Australia, located in the eastern suburbs of Bondi Beach. It houses a mix of internationally-renowned, luxury brands along with local designers and boutique shops.

If you need a bit of a retail escape while in the Bondi area, make sure you put this activity on your list of things to do near Bondi Beach!

12. Check out The Bondi Farmers Market

The farmers markets are one of the two sections of Bondi weekend markets that highlight local produce. Thousands of parked cars lined the market in an assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables and a variety of local flowers & spices.

Although this market has an extensive reputation within the locals, it is a popular thing to do in the Bondi beach area to get an authentic taste of the local food.

13. Don't Miss A Bondi Sunset On The Grass At North Bondi

The green knoll on the northern edge of the beach will give you an ideal spot to enjoy Bondi sunsets. Its lawns are perfect for leisure strolls or relaxing. A summer picnic on the lawn is among the best beaches in Bondi.

The picnickers can enjoy breathtaking ocean views and the stunning sunsets on the ocean as well. Location: North Bondi Beach Sydney.
